Polling for Speakers

Get it? Speakers? As you can see from the sidebar, we already have a speaker lined up for our July meetup, but we’re looking for volunteers for August, September and October. Yes, I’m looking at you. If there’s a website design/development related subject you feel strong enough to present on, please leave a comment below. If public speaking isn’t your thing, but you have a topic you’d like to see covered at an upcoming Refresh Columbia meetup, let us know below as well – just be sure to note that you’re not volunteering.

On Thursday, July 24th we’ll post a poll of all the speaker candidates and let everyone vote on which topic they’d like to see covered for our August 28th meetup. The poll will close on Wednesday, July 30th so that we can announce the upcoming topic at the July meetup.

Since we don't have a speaker/topic to vote on for this month, which of the following songs would you prefer to NEVER HEAR AGAIN?

I'm probably most qualified to give an intro to Django. Maybe the ubiquitous "Build a blog" tutorial. Alternatively, I could give an overview of django's powerful templating language (complete with templating inheritence) which might be nice for a design-oriented crowd.

You must have been reading the mind of the folks at WebMonkey, Justin. They just posted an article titled Install Django and Build Your First App. Of course, the first app is a blog. I'd still be down with hearing your take on a Django introduction though. That is, as long as you speak in a Danish accent and say "WHOOOPS!" every few minutes.

I've been lurking around your site, and I'm inspired by your group's efforts to share information with one another. I'm a web developer at South Carolina ETV and a web development instructor at Midlands Tech. I'd be happy to present on the subject of building a standards-based CSS website, a topic that is one of my favorites. Or, how about a chat about what's new in ActionScript 3.0?

One of the goals we talked about recently was to get educators and future web professionals involved in our meetups, so we're excited to have you aboard. I would personally prefer to hear a talk on AS3, especially from someone with a domain like monkeyflash.com :)
