Inaugural Meetup: It’s a Wrap

It\'s a Wrap
The inaugural Refresh Columbia meeting was a success. Thanks to all who came out. Here’s a quick summary of what we discussed:

  1. Who should we encourage to get involved? Pretty much anyone who works on the website development assembly line or has to communicate with those people. We also talked about how it’d be great to get students involved to get them exposed to industry practices.
  2. What topics should we cover? Whatever topics our members feel strong enough in to present on. Jason Beaird will kick off our monthly presentations in July with a talk based on his book. For August and beyond we’ll open the floor to anyone interested in presenting and choose a topic/speaker each month by public vote. Javascript, HTML/CSS, Typography, CMSs and several other subjects were mentioned.
  3. Where should our future meetings be held? Having a presentation each month will require a location with a room large enough for 30ish people and a projector. The State has offered such a conference room for next month – Thanks! After each monthly meetup we’ll move on to a social venue. For next month, we’ll be headed to the new Carolina Ale House in the Vista.
  4. When should we meet each month? At 6pm on the last Thursday of each month.
  5. How can we really “refresh” the interactive industry here? By providing resources and education of course, but the real refresher will be having an active community here for people to get involved in.
  6. Why are we doing this again? Because we care a lot.

That is all. Carry on.

Was a good first meeting. Looking forward to the first presentation – no pressure there Jason…
