August 2008 Recap
It’s been a week since our August meetup and I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything that we learned. I guess that means it’s time to post the recap!
Both of our talks this month were about ActionScript in Flash. First up, Gray Gunter dove into AS extensions and explained how they can make the designer’s life a whole lot easier.
The two main extensions Gray talked about were MCTween (the extension for exclusively for action script 2) http://hosted.zeh.com.br/mctween/ & Tweener (the extension still being developed for ActionScript 2 & 3 as a Google Code Project) http://code.google.com/p/tweener/
After Gray, Greg Lunn told us all about the limitless potential and vast improvements of the 3rd generation of ActionScript.
Greg is so excited about this topic that he announced that he will be teaching a hands-on, full-day course about AS3 on Thursday, September 18th. You can learn more about the class and view the slides from Greg’s presentation at thinkbugmedia.com.
After Greg’s presentation, Don Barth, a professor in USC’s Media Arts department recommended a couple books that he found helpful in picking up AS3:
There was a lot of new faces at this month’s meetup. Thanks for coming out and we hope to see you all again at the September meetup. We’ll get the details posted soon!

It was indeed a great set of presentations.
I had written flash off as just fancy animation stuff, with the second coming of html/css like it has over the past couple of years, but those two guys maybe made me see the light…
P3 is definitely going to get with Greg for the thinkbugmedia.com class.
